Staff Chemist, Manufacturing
Position Overview
Support the manufacturing of chemistry based medical devices products by maintaining current processes and transferring new processes from R&D. The scope of work includes process and test method validation, identifying and implementing process and test method improvements, process transfer and scale-up. Work closely with R&D, Quality, and Regulatory in supporting the transfer of new products from R&D, process and test method validation, and process development and improvement. Job duties:
- Interface with other departments to solve production and technical problems.
- Advanced subject matter expertise for engineering change orders, non-conforming reports, and material review boards.
- Identify and implement new laboratory equipment and processes.
- Perform, interpret, and report analytical testing.
- Evaluate, create, and initiate improvements to existing engineering, project, and departmental systems.
- Oversee junior chemists’ execution of equipment and processes validations.
- Review, modify, and develop documents such as build of materials, manufacturing procedures, test methods and reports, validations, failure modes/effects analyses, etc.
- Guide junior chemists in their support of prototype and pilot production, facilities, planning, and process knowledge transfer.
- Advise team members on existing manufacturing processes, new products, product changes, and enhancements, as well as related tooling and fixtures.
- Supervise supporting manufacturing technicians or associates as needed.
- Day-to-day tasks performed under little to no supervision.
- Perform other duties as assigned (e.g., create presentations, reports, etc.).

Salary Range:
$116,067 - $145,900 (Financial compensation packages may be higher/lower than listed, & will ultimately depend on factors including relevant experience, internal equity, skillset, knowledge, geography, education, business needs and market demand)
- Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry, Chemical Sciences, or a related field of study.
- A minimum of six (6) to eight (8) years of relevant industrial experience in chemical synthesis and materials analysis, or equivalent combination of advanced degree and relevant experience.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Previous experience directing junior chemists’ work.
- Proficient computer skills including Microsoft Office Suite: Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, Word, and Teams.
- Ability to read and prepare technical documentation.
- Extensive knowledge of laboratory equipment, organic-synthetic and transformation processes, test methods, and qualitative and quantitative measurements.
- Knowledge of the medical device space, pharmaceuticals, or similar industry.
- Lean/Six Sigma Yellow/Green/Black Belt certifications or equivalent.
