Technician II, Laboratory (R&D)
Position Overview
Support management with the R&D laboratories, materials, and equipment inventory and maintenance. Assist in writing technical documents and support with testing products under the direction of lab management and engineering staff. Job duties:
- Support general lab organization, including, but not limited to, lab storage space, badge access, basic training, lab layout and cleanliness, interfacing with cross-functional groups (e.g., Facilities, Office Services, etc.).
- Interact with vendors to complete the full process for all orders, e.g. obtaining quotes, pricing, and availability of supplies and equipment for the lab and submitting purchase orders for these items.
- Assist with maintaining inventory of supplies for general use in the lab, including syringes, airline fittings and tubing, luer fittings, general use chemicals, etc.
- Provide support with maintaining equipment logs, databases, maintenance scheduling, and asset tracking for R&D equipment.
- Perform troubleshooting/repairs on laboratory equipment or work with support partners (Equipment Maintenance Group and/or vendors) for repairs when necessary.
- Assist in writing and training of technical documents such as protocols, reports, and procedures.
- Assist in product testing under the direction of engineering and scientific staff.
- Interface with Quality Assurance to assure calibration and/or qualification of equipment.
- Comply with applicable Laws and Regulations, adhere to Quality Management System processes and requirements as well as demonstrate Ethics and Integrity in all matters and at all levels throughout the organization.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
- High school diploma or equivalent.
- A minimum of three (3) years of related work experience.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to read and understand technical documentation.
- Good Laboratory Practices and the ability to follow required safety procedures.
- Ability to read, write, and speak in English.
- Basic math skills.
- Computer skills including MS Word, Excel, Teams, Outlook, etc.
- Basic machining skills.
- Basic electrical troubleshooting skills.
- Excellent organization and practical neatness skills.
- Good comprehension of technical documents and concepts.
- Ability to manage time and function well with simultaneous task assignments.
- Ability to work with minimal to moderate supervision.
- Ability to work well within a team environment and independently in a proactive manner as the situation requires.
- Experience with medical device testing and measurement tools (e.g., multi-meter, etc.).
- Basic electrical skills (ability to read voltage, current, and resistance).
- Ability to operate mill and lathes in the machine shop
- Moderate to extended periods of computer use.
- Extended periods of sitting, standing, or walking.
- Moderate lifting, up to 50 lbs.
- Manual dexterity and hand-eye coordination to complete required tasks.
- Gowning may be required in controlled environments. Personal Protective Equipment use, including safety glasses and gloves, required for certain tasks and areas.
- May work with machinery and chemicals, requiring strict adherence to safety protocols.
